Container Specifications

Standard container dimensions used in calculations:

  • 20ft Standard: 5.9m x 2.35m x 2.39m (33 m³ capacity)
  • 40ft Standard: 12.03m x 2.35m x 2.39m (67.7 m³ capacity)
  • 40ft High Cube: 12.03m x 2.35m x 2.69m (76.3 m³ capacity)

Calculations account for stacking limitations and commodity density.

How to Use the Export Calculator

Follow these simple steps to calculate your export requirements:

1

Select Commodity Type

Choose the commodity you’re exporting from the dropdown menu. We support various agricultural products including rice, sesame seeds, maize, wheat, pulses, beans, sugar, and cotton.

2

Enter Total Weight

Input the total weight of your shipment in metric tons. The calculator will automatically convert this to the appropriate number of bags based on your selected bag size.

3

Choose Bag Type

Select your preferred bag size: standard (50kg), small (25kg), jumbo (100kg), or custom size. For custom bags, you can specify dimensions in centimeters or inches and weight in kg or lbs.

4

Select Pallet Type

Choose your pallet type: standard (120×100 cm), Euro (120×80 cm), custom size, or no pallets. For custom pallets, you can specify dimensions in centimeters or inches.

5

Set Stacking Height

Specify how many layers of bags you want to stack on each pallet. The calculator will ensure your stacking height doesn’t exceed container limits for safe transport.

6

Choose Container Type

Select the container type you plan to use: 20ft standard, 40ft standard, 40ft high cube, or no container (for local transport calculations).

7

Calculate and Review Results

Click the “Calculate Export Requirements” button to see detailed results including total bags needed, pallets required, containers needed, stacking information, and optimal arrangement details.

Formulas Used in This Calculator

This calculator uses industry-standard formulas to provide accurate export planning calculations:

1. Total Bags Calculation
Total Bags = (Total Weight in Metric Tons × 1000) / Bag Weight in kg
Converts metric tons to kilograms and divides by the weight of each bag to determine the total number of bags needed.
2. Bags Per Pallet Calculation
Bags Per Pallet = (Pallet Width / Bag Width) × (Pallet Length / Bag Length) × Stacking Height
Calculates how many bags fit on a pallet based on the dimensions of both the bags and the pallet, multiplied by the number of stacking layers.
3. Pallets Needed Calculation
Pallets Needed = ceil(Total Bags / Bags Per Pallet)
Divides the total number of bags by the number of bags per pallet and rounds up to the nearest whole number to determine how many pallets are required.
4. Container Capacity Calculation
For 20ft containers: 10 pallets
For 40ft containers: 20-24 pallets
For 40ft High Cube: 24 pallets
Based on standard container capacities. High cube containers can typically accommodate more pallets due to their increased height.
5. Containers Needed Calculation
Containers Needed = ceil(Pallets Needed / Pallets Per Container)
Divides the total number of pallets by the number of pallets that fit in one container and rounds up to determine how many containers are required.
6. Stacking Height Calculation
Max Stacking Height = Container Internal Height / Bag Height
Actual Stacking Height = min(Selected Stacking Height, Max Stacking Height)
Calculates the maximum possible stacking height based on container dimensions and bag height, then uses the lower of the user-selected value or the maximum allowed value.
7. Volume Calculation (for non-palletized shipments)
Bags Per Container = (Container Volume × Utilization Factor) / Bag Volume
For shipments without pallets, calculates how many bags fit in a container based on volume, with a typical utilization factor of 70% to account for empty space.
